One thing I like about my job is, I get to go where the general public can’t go. The local sports complex is having its roof replaced due to the danger of it collapsing. It’s old and needed replacement. The complex has been shut down for about six months which has kept several teams away from getting their usual practices done.
It’s a story we’ve been following at the paper, and it was my idea to go to the roof and shoot photos of the workers replacing the roof. The newsdesk thought it was a great idea and it ran on the cover of the newspaper.

A huge crane is used to lift sections of the roof from the ground up to the top of the building. They also use it to pull off sections of the roof and bringing them down. (Photo: Brian Poulsen)

I like to find stories or photos myself. That way I get to shoot stuff I want to shoot and not just always do what the journalists at the paper need.
