Sunday Hockey action

Yes yes I know I should probably change the name of the blog to “hockey picture blog” or something. I haven’t really shot anything exciting other than hockey, so here’s another selection of shots. This is from Sunday’s game.

Back from the dead

Ok. I didn’t die - I guess you figured as much.

I changed the blog engine from Movable Type, to Wordpress. Movable Type was giving me some weird problems on the server this site is hosted. Sometimes blank pages would show up when people commented, and even more problematic, it would happen in the backend when I tried to submit an entry.

In the middle of the switch I ended up catching a serious fewer, which was just the beginning of a flu. Some minor tweaks still need to be applied, but it’s nothing that effects the blog itself.

Moving

I moved my blog away from presspass.brianpoulsen.net and over to blog.brianpoulsen.net. The main reason was to simplify it. I figure the new address is a lot easier to remember.

Some minor tweaks will be on the way over the next 24 hours or so.

Youngest rookie

Saban Ă–zdogan is a 17 year old local kid who became the youngest ever to dress for a regular season game for FC Copenhagen’s soccer team.

I was assigned to shoot some portraits of the kid for an interview article that’s going to run in the newspaper.

As you might have gotten by his name, he’s originally from Turkey and as he said, he’s proud of his roots, referring to the Turkish flag hanging on his wall at the end of his bed. So I figured it would be a nice touch to include in the portrait, along with having him wear one of his team jerseys.

Best of 2007

Another year has gone by. And another ‘best of’ is here. so here’s 10 of my favorite shots from 2007.

Also I’ve been thinking about what to do with this blog. I can’t figure out if I should continue on with it in its current form, change it, or just shut it down. I really don’t want to the last but the thought has crossed my mind.

Anyway, in no particular order (click image for higher resolution):

Book project

First of all, Happy New Year to the few who actually read this blog.

I’m currently working on a book project. I’ve spent most of the past two weeks on putting a book together. It’s a photo book with the best hockey pictures I’ve taken over the past three years. It’s actually something I wanted to do about a year ago, but sort of ran out of quality photos around the 70 page mark or something and figured i’d wait. I had the World Championships in Russia in the horizon and figured I’d bring home a good load of pictures from that. To end it off I spent a weekend in Canada in December as I’ve already written about here. Plus I got some stuff from the danish league and a couple of trip to Sweden. I don’t have a deal with a publisher or anything. I plan on using the online publishing service, blurb.com.

It’s always a good thing to have a goal each year. The goal for 2007 was to shoot a prizewinning sports action photo. I’m not a trophy whore or anything, but figured it would be a good project. Plus it’s what I feel I’m really good at, so it’s sort of a measuring stick against the rest of the field. Of course it also depends on the judges …. I have submitted my photos and the verdict should be in in about a week or two from now.. I’ll update you on that.

So the first goal or project for 2008 is to finish the book and get it published.

Here’s what I came up with for the cover.
