An update

Death in the family has kept my mind on anything else but this blog. Now that everything is back to normal (as normal as it can get) I figured it was time to give a little update on what I’ve been doing..

A couple of concerts, a couple of soccer games, some handball, a demonstration and other stuff is among what I’ve been pointing my camera at.

I made a small gallery with captions in it with some of the most recent stuff I’ve been doing.

Rap concert

Thursday I covered a rap concert with the rap group Suspekt. It was really cool and the crowd was really into it.

Music

Assignment: Shoot pictures of Rodovre Concert Band’s Fall concert

So I was assigned to shoot pictures of a Symphony Orchestra playing. There were plenty of opportunities and I was pretty much given all the time in the world to get the job done.

Going in close with my 70-200mm is the obvious. It’ll show you somebody playing an instrument and it’ll be obvious what’s going on. There are so many musicians, it’s hard to single one out or get a clean shot.

There’s actually a bit of a story in this photo. The guy playing an “Obo” is only 17 and dropped out of school to study music at the Academy of Music which is not easy to get in to.

Anyway, creating a pattern would be an idea. but it’ll still turn out a mess because they sit in a half-circle thing and the pattern is not consistent enough to look good.

So I decided to step back.. WAY back. There were almost a complete row of empty seats all the way in the back of the room and decided to shoot some wide angle stuff instead.

There are a couple of reasons why I did this. One of them is that a Symphony Orchestra is big. It consists of quite a few musicians and I wanted to show the magnitude of the band instead of just singling a few out.

Bryan Adams

I’m working on a local newspaper, actually I’m working on two local newspapers. Most of the assignments are indeed local stuff. Thankfully cool and different assignments show up such as covering a Bryan Adams concert last week. One of the papers I work for happens to be in a city that has a big arena. It’s actually a velodrome (indoor cycling track) but can be used for concerts. So I was assigned to cover one. It was really cool and at the same time my first ever concert shoot.

I know Bryan Adams isn’t exactly the most popular star these days but it’s still cool to cover stuff like this and see 7500 people (the majority was women) go nuts!

Concert photography CAN be tricky. Big amounts of backlight sure is a challenge.
