Girls night out

The local movie theater/concert hall/culture house Viften arranged a girls night out arrangement where they showed Sex and the City the Movie. Before the movie the girls was served Cosmopolitan drinks which would be my approach.

Walking in to the concourse area I saw a table lined up with more than 100 glasses. The bar staff was loading Cosmopolitans into the glasses. I was hoping they would fill all glasses before letting people grab the drinks. The colorful glasses would make a great photo.. Unfortunately things didn’t quite go my way.

When the first batch of glasses was filled they asked for the women to grab a drink.. To give you an idea of the table I shot this really quick..

All the empty glasses sucked and didn’t really look good at all.

So I bent down closer to the table so the glasses that was filled close to me covered the empty glasses in the middle of the bunch.

It didn’t really do what I wanted. A smaller table behind the big one was also loaded with drinks. It would also give a wider shot including more people in the frame and still show a lot of drinks.

After the first round of drinks had been taken from the table, the rest of the empty glasses was filled and was just waiting to be consumed.

To give you an idea of what I was looking for in the first place, here’ a photo of glasses.

Most of the girls had already taken their seats in the theater waiting for a male stripper to get them going… These glasses was never touched. I waited patiently for a couple of girls or three to come and take a glass…

Women’s handball

I don’t shoot handball that much. I enjoy it a lot but it doesn’t have as high a priority on the paper as soccer and hockey. Plus the facility they play in is darker than hell.

Wednesday night I was assigned to cover two games in a row. First the Men’s game and then the Women’s game. Apparently it took me half the men’s game to get into the groove again. Here’s a few shot from the Women’s game.

Here’s a sport where I wish I had two Canon 1D Mark II N’s and not a Mark II N and a Canon 1D. The facility is too dark to even attempt to push my old 1D. So I have to swap lenses every now and then. The 300mm gives me blurred backgrounds and some
nice up close photos. Plus I can shoot the action in both ends.

Here’s one of the up close moments I mentioned. Unfortunately there is no ball in the picture.

Shooting with the 300 does give you a lot of this because they jump when they shoot:

Outtakes

Tuesday I covered a hockey game. A boring hockey game. I can’t remember the last time I was at a hockey game as boring as the one Tuesday. Usually I’ll get somewhere between 10-15 useful photos from a hockey game. From the home team only. I don’t really focus on the opponents since we are a local paper, focusing on the local team and not the visiting team.Anyway. Tuesday I got like 5 usable shots. Nothing extraordinary, except for a bloody nose..hahn-blod.jpgCanadian Derek Hahn skates back to the box while blood comes from his nose, as a result of taking a high stick to the face. Here’s a couple of outtakes to display my frustration.outtake1.jpgouttake2.jpgHere I would like to know what the hell the autofocus had found interesting to focus on.outtake3.jpg
